vintage and candy {Motley Junket meets The Original Goumas Candyland}

Hello and greetings from the Motley Junket girls!

We have recently embarked on a new adventure and are so excited to tell you all about it!

The wonderful folks at  The Original Goumas Candyland in Granville, Ohio invited us to sell our wares in their new store location at 113 N. Prospect Street in Granville.  We thought the combination of homemade chocolates, candies, pastries and our vintage wares would be a fun and quirky retail twist!

We have been so busy over the past few weeks helping to get the new space ready and we are now officially open for business!

Upon entering, you will be greeted with a huge showcase filled with all of the mouth-watering homemade chocolates of The Original Goumas Candyland!  Coconut haystacks (Polly's personal fave), creams, chocolate covered potato chips and pretzels.....and the list goes on and on!  They also offer jars and jars of candy like gummies, chocolate covered coffee beans, malted milk balls, and individually wrapped caramels.

Up close and personal with some sea salt caramels.....

We did displays throughout the space with our vintage and handmade goods.  You'll find lollipops, chocolate covered race cars and kettle corn mixed into our displays too!

This area really encompasses our look and many of our loves............empty frames, cubbies, dress forms, galvanized tubs, wire bins, and that old workbench is pretty cool!

We have two sets of these fabulous old drawers in their original patina.

This space is fabulous because there is a large front room, but it keeps going back with two smaller rooms.  In the middle section, we have this amazingly cool vintage massage table (will post more pics of the base constructed of pipes later).  We've added an assortment of funky and sweet pillows and other pop-art style and graphic goods such as solid chocolate letters and numbers, scrabble letters, and vintage letters.

I added a bevy of butterflies made from antique book pages to this huge grapevine wreath.  Fabulous over a headboard or a mantle!

I am IN LOVE with these handmade ruffled farmhouse pillows made by Jane, a close family friend with an obviously amazing talent!!

Of course we have old frames!  I made a few wreaths with vintage velveteen ribbon and handmade book page rosettes.

This cute room in the back of the store is filled with vintage pieces and is all ready for the Fourth of July!

You'll find ironstone, industrial bits, vintage furniture, architectural elements, wire baskets, canvas water bags, and so much more!   I am so loving these built in shelves for display!  We covered the wall in old dictionary pages.....each page was hand picked by an adorable 9 year old girl who's a Motley Junket girl in training!  She has a great eye for all the neat old graphics!

That old cabinet door in the corner has been repurposed as a chalkboard.  It sits at approximately 5 feet tall.

Just wanted to whet your appetites with some photos tonight........I'll do another post soon with more pics!

In the meantime, we would love for you to stop by in person!  Here's our info:

coming soon ~

The Motley Junket girls had a busy day at auction gathering up some new finds!

We really want to bring a quirky assortment to our Motley Junket booth with an emphasis on industrial, farmhouse, and shabby.

Sometimes things tucked away in a dark corner of a dirty garage just speak to us.

We like to repurpose things in our own home and we know our customers do too, so we're always on the hunt for interesting vintage things that have potential to be something else.

It feels good to save things that tell a story

Capturing bits and pieces of history and lives.

Things that someone else saved for all these years get a new chance to make someone smile.

Sometimes the things we find need a little love......glue, paint, soap and water and elbow grease.

Sometimes their patina is just perfect as it is but we need to think of it with fresh eyes and creativity.

Some things that were meant to organize the professional lives of hardworking men decidedly become the way a modern girl corrals her bits, pieces and collections.

Us girls.

Bringing you some vintage love for your homes and lives, one interesting piece at a time.

colorful, funky and cool ~

Despite being super busy preparing our new storefront in Granville, Ohio, I spent the afternoon at Heritage Square Antique Mall yesterday zhushing our Motley Junket booth!  We are rocking some colorful hues right now!  Reds, greens, mustard yellow, and blues!  We've got a colorful, funky, cool vibe going on right now!  Lots of neat stuff!

The mall is open all weekend, including Sunday from Noon - 6pm.

Mick and I ran into our favorite auctioneer and his wife at dinner last night and they told us about a great auction happening this morning that we decided to get up early and go to.  It was a fun one!  We literally filled the entire Rendezvous (and you can fit a lot of stuff in a Rendezvous!) with boxes and boxes of smalls!  We didn't buy any furniture because we could not fit another thing!  We got ironstone, tons and tons of vintage ephemera, old pictures, old mirrors, an old milking stool, and some vintage Christmas!  It was a quick auction and we had a grand old time!  So, lots of new things will be arriving to the both Motley Junket and Georgie Emerson Vintage next week!  Probably will be saving some of it for the new store too!

Happy weekend friends!

news~

We have some VERY exciting news! The Motley Junket girls have been invited to team up with The Original Goumas Candyland at a new storefront in Granville, Ohio! What a fun combination of goods - decadent handmade chocolates and shabby vintage home decor - "sweet vintage" if you will!

We have been so busy prepping the space with gallons and gallons of paint, antique book pages and sweat equity with the help of some amazing friends!  Without the team effort, we never would have finished all the painting in just two days!  Thank you all so very much!

We have been bringing loads of vintage goods that are all stacked up in the corner right now.  We're waiting until the candy showcases arrive to figure out our arrangement.  Then, the vignettes will begin to take shape!

We'll share photos, the address, and opening date soon!

Funny story.....yesterday, I was taking a rest on the front stoop of the shop with two of my favorite little girls who had just brought me my own little goodie bag filled with Goumas Candyland chocolates......severely delish coconut haystacks to be exact......when a young man stopped by and inquired about what we were doing inside.  We had a quick conversation in which I explained the shop's combination of candy and vintage shabby industrial stuff.  He then retorted with a little poem for us....."industrial chic and something sweet.....right off of Main Street"!  Still giggling!  And loving the fact that folks are already dropping in to see what's up!

Stay tuned for more info!  Oh, and we're keeping our booths at Heritage Square too!
