We are anticipating decent weather the next two days here in Central Ohio! 50 degrees today, 60 degrees tomorrow! Warm enough to drag this old bench into the garage and get its makeover going!
I found this old girl at a yard sale last summer for $40. She is solid oak and HEAVY! Currently painted black and upholstered in a silky black and cream striped (and water stained) fabric, she is screaming for a new look! There is also a fabric pad that attaches to the back.
I bought her with the intention of utilizing her in my laundry room / mud room. I'm thinking she will be perfect for shoe storage underneath if I can find baskets big enough for Mick's shoes.
She has been sitting in the space for a couple months now, as is. I just wanted to make sure she wasn't too big for the space. We bought our wall paint over the weekend and plan on getting started on that this week.
She got her first coat of primer this morning. Covering that black should be fun! I had read that Zinsser primer is good at stain coverage, so I'm trying that brand for the first time. So far, so good!.
Here is a photo of my laundry room now. Well, some of the accessories are different, but you can see the light green wall color and the cottage style.
I'm going in a little different direction. The white cupboard you see to the left is gone. I will be replacing it with a vintage industrial gym shelf full of locker baskets. We also have purchased a vintage industrial style sink to replace my plastic wash basin. And IKEA Lack shelves for the wall above the washer and dryer. We'll see how it goes over the next couple weeks! Stay tuned! And, please wish me luck! The vision doesn't always match the final product!
Also, I am on the search for grey and white or tan and white quatrefoil fabric for the bench. Anyone know of an on-line source for it? I have my heart set on it, but have had no luck thus far. I may have to resort to Plan B, although I don't know what Plan B is yet!!
I found this quatrefoil rug on Pinterest that I love......

However, this room gets a TON of traffic, so I'm not sure it makes economic sense. I would like to find fabric exactly like this to use on the bench. Any tips on where I might find this fabric would be appreciated!

Can't wait to see how the old bench turns out ~ and the laundry room too!
Those warm temps really get my inspiration going too! What a great bench and can't wait to see it in your new laundry room, of which I'm eyeing that pretty wall color you've chosen. (I got a new washer because my old one kicked the bucket and I was excited about that because it's my first front loader.) Have fun Polly! xo ~Lili
That's a great bench that I'm sure is soon to become even GREATER!
