Last fall, I spent the day at The Springfield Antique Show looking for treasures. If you haven't been and you are local, it's a must-go! It's a very large outdoor venue with hundreds of dealers in every style and aesthetic you can imagine. I am really looking forward to their big show this Spring!
Towards the very end of my junket, I came across a dealer who had some cute pieces of furniture she had painted and made over. I had been looking for a storage piece for my office and in the back of my mind, I knew I really wanted a mid century credenza. However, I was also a little weary that a mid century piece might look a little out of place amongst all my shabby style furnishings. I spotted this cool credenza that had been shabbied up with cream paint and distressing and I was smitten. But, I was by myself, and driving through the crowds at the antique show to pick it up was not appealing to me. So, I walked away from it and TRIED my darndest to wipe her memory from my mind.
Fast forward two weeks later.
I'm perusing Craigs List still on my hunt for a storage solution. And there she was! I had to do a double take, but I was certain it was her, and she was local! And still available! We picked her up the next day.
I've been using her in my office since then, but yesterday, I got into the rearranging mood and switched her to my foyer......
Our home is a traditional four-square, so our foyer is tiny. I have really struggled with it over the years, but I think I've finally got it right!
I find it interesting that by placing a large piece of furniture in a small space can really open it up!
It is also a very dark space, so utilizing a painted piece and the mirrors helped to lighten and brighten and make it more welcoming.
I kept accessories to a minimum. My friend Lynda at Happenstance Home found one of these fleurs baskets at Joann's a long while back but I had not been able to find one here. Our little store finally got some a couple weeks ago. I added some hydrangeas and hung it by the door.
Everything else was shopped from the house. I've had this chunky alabaster lamp for years. The flowers on the shade were cut off of a thrifted shirt. You can find some fun embellishments on clothing!
So tell me, what do you think of the combination of a clean-lined mid century piece of furniture with my more shabby french farmhousy accessories? Kinda quirky, I know, but very me!
I started a credenza board on my Pinterest page that you can view here. I am now on the hunt for a credenza to fill the empty area in my office. It just so happens that I found one last week while thrifting with a friend, but I didn't buy it. With bated breath and fingers crossed, I will swing by there today and see if, by chance, it is still there! Wish me luck! Otherwise, I'll be on the search, and you know what, it's always fun to have something to search for!
Until next time......

Your foyer looks fantastic Polly! I love the credenza. All of your accessories look perfect too! I was admiring your basket - then read my name - thank you for the mention. The baskets are great aren't they! I found some amazing old vegetable baskets yesterday at an antique store. LOVE! I just have to figure out where they are going. I couldn't leave them at the store. I'm also going back to a shop today to see if they still have a silver pitcher I spotted. Best wishes to you on your hunt!
Your hallway looks fantastic, Polly! Color unifies everything and all of this white looks great- despite a mix of styles! H Poe you find the other piece you're looking for.

I like it. The handles on it are very funky in an interesting kind of way. The mirrors on the wall are great also. Hope your new office piece was still available.
That credenza looks so good there, Polly. In fact, the whole area looks great! I've been searching on Craigslist for an armoire for my dining room...so far, no luck. Hope you have a good weekend!

I love your mix of styles and the scale is perfect for the entry hallway. I'll bet it looks cozy with the light on at night. Makes me want to move some stuff around:)

It looks just perfect there Polly and I just LOVE how you accessorized it!
Oh definitely the credenza works for me too! Love it Polly. You do such a great job in putting just the right accessories together too. It must be so uplifting every time you enter into your foyer and see how perfect it looks in there. It was meant to be that you found it again (or did IT find you?) ha! xo ~Lili
