quite possibly my most favorite find ever!

This past Wednesday, Keely and I had a girls night out and decided to spend it at
an auction house!!  We found a few interesting things, but when this piece of ironstone
came up on the bidding block, I almost fell off my chair!

It is an old syrup pitcher covered in crazing and staining.  I love its fluted design.
It fits in perfectly on my old shoe rack next to my ironstone tureen and covered soap dish.

The hinged spout is beautiful with all its wear and natural patina.

I love collecting ironstone!
It makes my heart skip a beat and I get all geeked up when I find a piece I don't already have!
I don't worry about cracks or crazing or even chips....to me, those things just tell a story
and add some character to the piece.  The most elusive ironstone has been a cake plate!
I saw two at an antique show recently, one of them was $450 and the second was $625.
Needless to say, they didn't make it to my collection!  Maybe someday I'll come across
one that I can afford!

I am linking up to Debra's Vintage Inspiration Friday at Common Ground.

Thanks for hosting Debra!
Happy weekend my friends!

goings on around here ~

 Good morning all!
I am feeling so much better and am finally kicking this bug to the curb!  I'm at
the runny nose/watery eye stage which is totally manageable.  I spent the weekend
catching up on all sorts of things like disinfecting the house!  We did take a break
to hit a new closeout store in Columbus called Ollie's.  The sign said "great stuff cheap".....
so of course, it was worth checking out!

We found this BIG clock for the family room....

The chandelier for the bedroom is almost completely cleaned!  I can't believe the
difference a little soap and water made!

Look how sparkly!
I am meeting an old buddy of my Dad's today to have him check out the wiring and see
if he can recommend a way to clean to main structure.  Should be done soon!  Once it's up in
the room, I can get started on painting .  I've been waiting to see the lighting before choosing my color.

Before we got sick, we worked on recovering this old footstool I've had for years...

I recovered it in pink ticking with a ball fringe detail about 10 years ago when I had a
very pink very cottage style guest room.  You can see the stains on top.  It really needed a makeover!

Mickey helped me remove all the staples...

And then we recovered it with a piece of sand colored fabric and I hot glued
two layers of ruffle trim around the bottom.

Pup-pup has claimed it as her helping step to jump up on the day bed.

On another note, I recently found two amazing vintage linen table runners that I'll be
taking to one of the booths later this week.  They are each approximately 13 feet long and made of
a nubby linen with red striping on each side.  They have a little bit of raw fringe on the ends.
They have some age and wear to them with a few minor stains here and there.

They would look amazing on a long farm table!
Or could be turned into beautiful french farmhouse pillows!
Thirteen feet is a lot of fabric to work with!

They are freshly laundered, lavender starched and ironed.  They will be offered at $35 each.

So anyways, that's what I've been up to.
Just so glad to be feeling better and hoping to get to some projects this week!
Thanks for coming back by to read my blog after my lengthy absence.  It means a lot to me!

Hope you are all doing well!

motley junket - fresh random finds ~

I have been away from my blog for a bit because we've been hit
with the crazy bug floating around.  I've missed visiting everyone!
I haven't felt like doing much of anything....my house is a mess,
the laundry is overflowing, the bedroom makeover is still at square one, and
I have a ton of projects piled up that need some attention.  I've started feeling
a little better this week, so Keely and I hit the antique mall today to give our booth
space a MUCH needed makeover!  It felt so good to dig in there and spark up those creative juices!

When we first moved in to our booth in November, we had every intention of having a sign with
our booth name ready to hang front and center.  But, we wanted a sign with a variety of letters and it has taken a while to find what we needed!  Once we had all the letters, we didn't have a piece of wood big enough!  Finally, everything came together and Motley Junket is now official with  our handmade sign....

On to some of our new finds!

A pair of french tufted chairs in a shade of pink that might just be a close match
to the Pantone 2011 color of the year - Honeysuckle....

a pair of vintage hanging owls...

super cool old Amanda Hatchery sign with chalkboard...

old Cenol advertising display, vintage hat form, pair of capiz shell electrified sconces...

sweet vintage tole chandelier with flowers in the prettiest shade of salmon...

vintage tulip plates, pottery, peach luster FireKing, spring chicks...

lots of vintage silverplate,  vintage alabaster lamp, vintage mirrors in fresh white paint,
black stool, petite french marble top table....

ornate mirror in fresh white paint....

vintage French canning jars and an ironstone wash bowl....

vintage wire display rack from an old drug store,  mid century globe,
and a fabulous turquoise basket...

Here's one last shot from across the aisleway.  We crammed in the goods
and used every inch of space that we possibly could!  We stacked stuff to use up our
vertical space.  This little 9 x 13 box of a space is filled to the brim!!

Check out that double theater seat!  My favorite thing is that little patio table you see over to the left there!  It's chippy and rusty and scrolly.  Love it!

Thanks for coming by!  Hoping to start visiting everyone's blogs again!

girls morning in ~

 Hello all!

I had a wonderful little day today with a few of my favorite girls!
Keely (my booth partner), her little girl, and Janet from Open Market Style
came over to my house for a girls morning in.  A much needed dose
of cheer after a few days cooped up watching the rain, ice and wind swirling about!

I don't do a ton of decorating for valentines day....usually just a few things in the foyer.
But I did take this opportunity to add a splash of pink here and there for our girls morning in!

( I love this Picnik texture!)

This occasion certainly called for some sweet treats!

I found the little tissue heart toothpicks at WalMart.

a big bowl of fresh fruit served in vintage FireKing...

and petite heart sandwiches of strawberry preserves

pimento cheese and chicken salad

tiny little cupcake truffles also from WalMart

My Grandma's china got some use too!

Isn't it awesome to have girls in your life that totally get you?
We share so many things in common and really enjoyed each others company.
After chatting and hanging out at my house, what else would we do but go out
for a little thrift therapy?  We all found some treasures and of course, enjoyed the hunt!
Pics of my finds coming soon!

Until next time my friends!

a beautiful mess ~

It's beautiful.
But it's a mess.

My new chandelier for my bedroom makeover won at auction this past Sunday for $30!

It's caked with years and years of dirt and grime.

I'm not convinced it has ever been cleaned actually.

But it's all there.  Every beautiful glass prism and bobeche.
The size is just right.  It's not too fancy, but fancy enough!

I'll be spending some quality time with a toothbrush and a squirt bottle of
vinegar and water over the next several days!  If you have any tips or advice on
cleaning a glass chandelier, please please share!  I am hoping it cleans up and sparkles!
Wish me luck!
On a totally different note, I just have to share these cuties....

Mr. Sassafras and I went to Meijer on Monday night stocking up for the big ice
storm.  We meandered away from the grocery section to look at CD's and I found
these darling vintage inspired prints.  There was several options...I chose my two faves
to hang in my office.

pink bike and pink mailbox....

Do you have Meijer stores where you live?
I have been quite impressed with their home section as of late.
Katie Brown's collection is full of natural elements, texture, even ruffles.
I also noticed that they have a great lampshade selection.

Thanks for stopping by!  For those of you who have been reading my blog
for awhile now, you know that my chandelier search has been long and arduous.
I feel so lucky to have found this beautiful mess and hope I have the skills to
transform it and take it back to its original beauty!

Hope you all are warm and well and weathering the winter storm!
