ruffly chippy floor lamp ~

 Good morning friends!
Just popping in this morning with a little post about a floor lamp I found
that has caused my heart to skip a beat!

I first saw it in the front window of a shop in my hometown called
Farmers Country Store.  Farmers is known for its selection of quilting fabrics and
decorative primitive home accessories.  I remember shopping there with my mom back
in the early 70's.  It's a neat old mercantile.  Their valentine's window display caught my
eye this year with several chippy white pieces and lots of pink.  This lamp was front and center!

Upon first glance, I thought the lamp was made from an old spindle.
How cool would that be?
But, when we got close enough, we realized it was a newly
manufactured piece made to look old.  And topped off with this
wonderful ruffly lampshade.  I knew it would be the perfect piece for
an area in my kitchen that I have been tweaking...and tweaking....and tweaking.
So I started saving up and we went by there yesterday, hoping it would be still be there.

Here's a couple close-ups of the chippy patina....

It really does look old, doesn't it?

So, it has found a new home in my kitchen in between my refrigerator and my old shoe cart.
You see, the light in my water dispenser on the fridge has gone out and we've never gotten
around to replacing it.  I get up through the night and stumble downstairs for a drink of water
and I'm forever spilling it down the front of the fridge because I can't see!  This lamp will cast
a warm glow right where I need it.  Plus, it will highlight my beloved ironstone collection.

I'm working on just a few more things and will soon share how the kitchen
has turned out.  No major remodeling or anything, just trying to create a look
in a difficult room!

Hope your weekend has been well!

P.S.  The "subway art" you see on the back wall is from TJ Maxx.  It's a large
canvas....super light and easy to hang.  It was $60.  I got it with a Christmas gift card
from my in-laws.

White Wednesday - ironstone and rust

Better late than never right?
I almost didn't make it to White Wednesday this week.  Well, technically, I didn't make it since
today is Thursday!  At any rate, here I am!!

This is a corner in our family room.  The old tool chest was green until Sunday.  I slapped
a couple coats of white paint on it to brighten it up a bit.  And then I added a few new finds on top.

This old tool chest has proven to be a very functional piece for us.
We house all of our Wii games inside.

I found this ironstone pitcher last week at a thrift store for $5.
love.
I didn't have one in this tall sleek silhouette.

The cool rusty flower was a find at the Scott Antique Show on Saturday, another $5 find.

I just set it inside the square ironstone bowl I got for $2 at the antique show.

That rusty architectural piece in the back was a Heritage Square Antique Mall find
several months back.  I think it was $10.

It was nice to give this area a new look for little cost!

Stop by Kathleen's blog, Faded Charm, to visit with all the White Wednesday folks!
Kathleen is showcasing some old handwritten letters tucked into a drool-worthy
architectural piece this week!  You will be enchanted!

Sorry I was late Kathleen!

french seed packet labels ~

A few weeks ago I was surfing Etsy and came across a shop in
Burgundy, France called simplyfrenchvintage.

Within this wonderful shop filled with an abundance of items straight from France,
I came across an assortment of original vintage french seed packet labels.
The bundle I chose contained both flowers and vegetables.

They arrived in the mail yesterday, and I was instantly smitten.
and inspired.

The doldrums of winter have me craving some pops of sweet color here and there.
I bought a bag of green apples last week to liven up the kitchen.
With that in mind, I pulled a few of the green veggies to place inside some frames I already had on hand...

I also had this much  larger frame.
I used an old love letter written in 1898 to "Nell" as the background
and simply placed the lettuce seed label on top.  Love the layered effect I ended up with.
This one is hanging in a kitchen vignette that I'll show you in another post, but here
are a couple up-close shots of it!

The smaller ones ended up as part of a wall collage in my kitchen combined
with a couple old ironstone pieces and a chippy salvaged grate and door hardware....

Cauliflower was so cute I hung it under the cabinet I'm in and out of a million times a day...

Gosh, is it totally crazy that something so little can make me so giddy?

They have added such a freshness to my kitchen!
I also started forcing some paperwhite bulbs a couple weeks ago and they
are sprouting like weeds.  A few sprinkles of lively vitality to brighten my day as I walk by!
Just what I needed to get through the winter blues!

valentine craft love ~

We are getting tons of snow today, so I decided it would be best
to stay off the roads and take advantage of a day at home.
It was a day filled with pricing goods, doing laundry, and
working on a few crafty valentine projects.

When I was digging through a box of stuff waiting to be priced,
I found a pair of old chalkware plaques.  They had fruit decals in the
center that someone had tried to scrape off and immediately I knew
they could be salvaged and turned into something pretty!

A few weeks ago, I bought the coolest fattest old dictionary with yellowed pages.
I chose the words "valentine" and "love", cut them out and decoupaged them
right over the fruit decals.

I had a couple flowers in my "this and that" drawer as well as few bits of burlap
that I hot glued on for a bit of embellishment.

I decided to hang them in my foyer.
Now I just need to finish up that area with a few other "lovely" accessories!

Hope you all are enjoying your week!
