Also, I wanted to shout-out a huge "THANK YOU" to Tami of Cupcake Studio who braved the blustery cold to visit The Olde Shoe Factory Antique Mall earlier this week! Tami did a very sweet post about my booth this morning, and I really appreciate the gesture. Thank you, Tami! You are very sweet! I hope to meet you in person one day!

Again, these items will hit the sales floor at some point today...probably a little later this afternoon.

Until next time, take care!

White Wednesday - Don't hide your uglies!

Don't hide your uglies!! Huh, you say?

I thought I would take this White Wednesday to pay homage to all those necessities around the house that generally get hidden away, tucked into drawers, and shoved into closets. I grew up in a home where everything had it's place. If it wasn't decorative, it got hidden. And, sometimes, it was a real pain. You'd be in the middle of something, and you'd need something, and of course, it wasn't close by because it was hidden in a cupboard behind something else...yada, yada, yada.

So, in my adult home, we don't hide our uglies!! We try to make those functional necessities look pretty, in their own "junked up" way....

toilet paper is out, in plain view, in each bathroom, in large quantity, held by rusty locker baskets

inexpensive toilet brushes are contained nicely by old ironstone pitchers

cotton swabs

and cotton balls and soaps...

look beautiful in glass jars in each bathroom.

And magazines. So many magazines!! I must admit, many of my past issues do get hidden in vintage suitcases that I use as end tables, but I always have a supply of magazines out in plain view also.
In french wall baskets in the bathroom....

basket purchased at Urban Farmhouse (find it on my blog list)

hanging above the tub on an old piece of a washstand repurposed as a magazine rack

and in a big old rusty wire bowl.

The laundry room has so many uglies!!! I keep my dryer sheets in a vintage
metal basket right on top of the dryer...

and doesn't OxyClean look better in a glass apothecary jar?

Pup-pup's toys are always out and about, but I do think they get a whole new look when
piled in a vintage white picnic basket, don't you?!?

So, there you have it!! Don't hide your uglies! Make them easily accessible and enjoy their utilitarian beauty by junking them up a bit!!

Don't forget to stop by Kathleen's blog Faded Charm for White Wednesday! You won't want to miss it!

a few of my new favorite things....

When I'm out and about junking and scouring the ends of the county for great finds for my booth, sometimes there's an item that speaks to me so much, it must come home with me! Here's a few of my new faves...

While in Michigan back in November, we saw a set of these vintage 1970's canisters for $69. I was soooo ready to buy them right then, but the frugal Mr. Sassafras encouraged me to be patient. He was so right!! He found them for me on E-Bay for just $20! And this set is in much better condition!

I found this pair of brand new with tags ruffly, buttoned linen pillows at a local thrift. I love the juxtaposition of the old tattered farm bench with the crisp, clean linen pillows in my kitchen.

This scrolly metal three tier display stand came from one of my favorite local jaunts, The Vintage Attic. I bought it to use for dessert display at Christmas, but I haven't put it away yet. I.LOVE.IT.

Just found this fruit for 66% off at Hobby Lobby yesterday!! Don't they look like cement? They're not. Some sort of lightweight material but they look just like cement.

Another Hobby Lobby find yesterday....30% off!

This beauty came from The Olde Shoe Factory Antique Mall where my booth is and where I work a couple days per week. She was dragged out of an old barn coated with dirt. She now resides at the end of my kitchen counter. Should I leave it or give it a fresh coat of paint? I hate to mess with that natural time-worn patina, but I think it would really lighten the room if it was creamy white.

A french bull figurine and an old rusty chicken feeder repurposed with votives from the dollar store.

a grapevine heart for Valentine's Day....I am so into texture these days....neutrals, texture, and natural elements.

My friend decoupaged this with old sheet music for her house but didn't really like it with her existing decor, so I scooped it up from her!

This script printed flower pick came from The Iron Grate in Fenton, Michigan. Isn't it neat?

And, these, my friends, are hands-down, my absolute favorite new thing:

I don't know about the rest of you, but my feet and lower back hurt like crazy after a day of working at the shop for 8 to 10 hours! Finally a friend told me about a little mom and pop shoe store that sells these - the Sanita clog. Oh dear, sweet Sanita clog, I love you!! So worth the $130 price tag. Seriously. And the gals in this little store actually get down on the ground, measure your feet, check where your toes hit, and have you walk around and make sure they feel good! I think I was 5 years old the last time I got this kind of service when buying shoes! It may sound crazy but these little clogs have made such a difference in my life!

Thanks all for coming by! I have a carload of great stuff to sift through, so I'll be posting about all the finds hitting the sales floor soon!
