White Wednesday architectural details

A couple weeks ago, we traveled to Mentor, Ohio for a memorial service. Part of the life celebration was held at a historic locale call Hellriegel's Inn. I snapped a few photos of some of the architectural details that caught my eye....

looks like they used spackling and a stencil to create the 3D effect

This was a curved alcove that was decoupaged with old music pages. The alcove was devoted to music with a white piano and various instruments hung on the wall. I love how the pages are in various shades of oldness.

sweet peace

Christmas Eve brings the sweet peace of this season.....an evening of quiet and silent reflection. All that will get done is done. The stress has subsided and the calm anticipation of tomorrow has begun to overcome me. I bid farewell to the season's pressures, and welcome the relishing of faith and family.

Announcing my giveaway winner!

I am so happy to announce that we have a winner!!

I did this whole thing old school....

I sat for a few hours today going through every single comment that all you wonderful people left regarding the giveaway! I got out a notebook and created a little graph so that I could keep track of every person who left a comment, whether or not the person mentioned my giveaway on their blog (and I did go to every single blog and double checked!!!), and if the person was a follower. It was a long and tedious task, and I sorta felt like I was back in the corporate world, but I wanted to make sure everyone got their fair chance and correct number of entries! I hand wrote each entry and dropped them in this old farm basket...



This furry little girl supervised the entire operation....


Then, when Mr. Sassafras got home, he shuffled all the entries and shook the basket real good....


Don't ask me why, but for some reason, he wanted to wear a "wintery hat" for this. Before grabbing the basket, he ran to the coat closet and came back with my vintage black fur hat on his head....ok, honey, whatever! I guess since we didn't have a Santa hat handy, he went for the next best thing!

Sorry I got off the subject for a minute there.....anyways, here he is revealing the winner...

this is an old window that someone at some point in time has embellished with a jolly Santa image and some hand sketched trees (SOLD)

This frame is AWESOME! Big and chunky and white with some green peaking through here and there. And it's made of some sort of plastic material, so it's not too heavy to hang! (SOLD)

What a perfectly mod lamp! (it does need a new finial) SOLD

This dress comes complete with shoulder pads! It is teeny tiny (the tag did not reveal a size).
