Handpicking every item that hits my shelves is not a game to me. It is so important to me to gather objects that I find inspiring, beautiful, or useful. While I realize that an ironstone bowl full of chips and crazing may not be the most functional piece of dishware out there, it is still beautiful and full of character and will help make a naked shelf come to life. And an old enamelware tabletop that has lost its legs becomes a useful magnetic bulletin board message center. Forgotten chandeliers no longer suitable for electric hold candles and create a romantic ambiance hanging above a bathtub or from a tree in the garden. These are the visions that flow through my brain when I come across the finds that eventually make their way to the shop. It would be so easy to go to auctions and buy up lots of boxed lots and fill my shelves with random stuff. But where's the joy in that? I love every item that I sell. Each piece could easily find a comfortable place to live at my house. I am constantly looking for cool stuff, and do my best to keep the prices affordable. Passing these wares along to the wonderful customers who visit The Sassafras Shop is truly an honor. I am grateful for this opportunity that I have been given, and I hope The Sassafras Shop is a fun little pit stop along your way.
Here's a few photos of what you'll find at Sassafras right now....
Cat's Paw Rubber Heels....aren't these just perfect for Halloween time? The boxes are in great shape and the rubber heels are still inside. I thought these would be so cute at a Halloween party holding black licorice or straws or orange candy canes.
Black plates that say BOO in scrabble letters.....these are so easy to make, and I always have a huge selection of scrabble and various game letters available for your creations and projects!
I had a few old bottles that I gussied up with some vintage letter stickers and rusty springs...they just need water and a pretty flower.
Gardening in the fall is just so wonderful....the crisp fall air makes being outside bearable and fall's bounty makes it easy to dress up a porch or garden. This old cupboard is filled with various pottery planters, vintage gardening tools, nests, and urns.

An old drawer with dividers stood on end and filled with little mementos and what-nots.
I have been hoarding goods for the upcoming Christmas season, and am itching to get the space transformed for the holidays. But I have a ton of sorting, cleaning and pricing to do before everything is ready. This year's holiday vibe seems to be going in the direction of romantic country Christmas. So, stay tuned!
Will blog again soon....until then, take care!

Polly, I had to find some more scrabble tiles this week and I was scrambling... what I did find was all tossed into a basket and I had to sort through them for what seemed like an eternity to find the letters I needed. I like how you categorize yours. I hunted for a good 20 minutes to find twelve 25 cent letters. At least I took them where I could sit down. LOL
Hope to get there sometime soon.
:-) Sue
